What Autodesk & WIC Week Taught Us About Careers in AEC Tech
Your go-to source for staying connected with industry trends, company highlights, and career opportunities in Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Technology.
Hi! Stefanie here, one of the three founders of AEC Tech Jobs! I’m excited to dive into this next edition of Behind the AEC Tech Jobs! This issue is going to dive into what we are reading, upcoming events, Women in Construction week and the Autodesk Layoffs (and how we are helping!).
Let’s dive in!
What we are reading/watching in the AEC world:
Last week was Women in Construction week! I was really excited to be part of Kahua’s NEW podcast by participating in Episode 2: Women Breaking Through in Construction! It was a great conversation with some fellow women that are crushing it in different areas of the industry. Plus Kahua is hiring!
Women in Construction (WIC) Week 2025 is celebrating the increasing impact of women in the industry while pushing for greater leadership opportunities. Organized by NAWIC, this year’s event highlights mentorship, education, and technological advancements that are helping break down barriers. With women now making up 14% of the workforce and growing, WIC Week reinforces the importance of diversity as a strategic advantage for companies.
Autodesk is laying off 1,350 employees (9% of its workforce) as it shifts focus toward AI and cloud computing. Despite strong financial performance (12% revenue increase in Q4 2024), this move aligns with broader tech trends, as companies like Google and Meta double down on AI investment. While the restructuring aims to position Autodesk as a leader in digital transformation, it raises questions about the future of automation in AEC tech.

AEC Careers: No One is Safe—So How Do We Prepare?
The past two weeks have been a wake-up call for the AEC industry.
🚨 Autodesk announced layoffs impacting 1,350 employees (9% of its workforce), despite a strong sales quarter. It’s a reminder that no company—no matter how stable they seem—is immune to restructuring.
💪 Women in Construction Week just wrapped up, shining a light on progress, but also reinforcing how much work remains. Women still make up less than 14% of the industry, and LinkedIn posts alone won’t fix that.
The reality? This is not your parents' job market.
You won’t be able to predict the “stable company” or the “recession proof role”. But what you can control, is finding a role that aligns with your goals and values.
I recently hosted a “find your pivot workshop” during the session, I prompted everyone to create a mind-map. (surprisingly most had never seen a mind map before!)
And if you’re feeling stuck (about anything really), a mind map is my favorite way to get unstuck!
Create Your Career Mind Map
One of the best ways to prepare for an uncertain job market is to create a career mind map—a visual guide to help you identify your skills, interests, and potential career pivots.
if you’ve never seen a mind map check this out for more details!
📝 Try this:
In the center, write your current job title.
Branch out with related skills, industries, values, and roles you’d be excited to explore.
Add companies, tools, or certifications that align with your interests.
💡 Feeling stuck? Take 10 minutes to map it out—you might be surprised by how many career paths you uncover!
But you don’t have to navigate this alone either! AEC Techs Jobs (and me!) are here to help! Interested in learning more about how we can work together? Reply back with “help” and I’ll send you some more details.
AEC Tech Jobs is now working with companies to help build up your founder’s personal brand. Interested in learning more? Reply back with “personal brand” and I’ll tell you all about it!
